A native of the island of Cuba, Yosvany Reyes immigrated to the United States in 1980. He and his parents were exiled from Cuba due to his father’s ideals and opposition to the revolution. Subsequently, his father served a fifteen year sentence in a political prison in Cuba before seeking political asylum in the U.S.

Earning a BFA in acting and musical theatre instruction from Otterbein College, Reyes pursued a Masters degree in Education, after which he headed the summer theatre academy program at The University of Miami for four years.
