About the Artists:
Poet/novelist Perry Brass has published 14 books through his small press, Belhue Press; his newest is Carnal Sacraments, A Historical Novel of the Future – ”one of the most unusual novels I’ve read in years,” says Bay Area Reporter, San Francisco. He is currently working on a new novel, The Membrane of Doubt, about the nature of God in the search for love. He has been included in 25 anthologies and has had 50 poems set to music, including “The Restless Yearning Towards My Self,” a 28-minute work for counter tenor and string quartet, set by Paula Kimper, which will be premiered this March by Downtown Music Productions. He lives in the cultural and literary epicenter of New York, the Bronx, where he reads, writes, and watches the Hudson River. He can be reached through his website, www.perrybrass.com, or at MySpace/PerryBrassbooks.
Since its launch on October 27, 2007 www.TheFictionistOnline.com has had over 42,000 readers, making Jillian Ciaccia the most well-known un-known short story writer to date. She is currently working on her third collection of short stories, Monstrosities, which will be featured along with her two earlier works, absurdities and peculiarities, at the September 2008 Brooklyn Book Festival. Feel free to visit the site for free downloads of her fiction and news of her whereabouts. The Fictionist will appear in UM2.
Kevin Kopelson has attended Yale, Columbia, Brown, and Harvard. But he’s forgotten everything he ever learned there. To learn more about Kevin go to http://english.uiowa.edu/faculty/kopelson/index.html.
Bob Mendoza received his MFA from Pratt Institute in 1986. He was an Adjunct Professor at Saint Francis College from 1986 to 1990.
Sam J Miller is a writer and a community organizer. His work has appeared in numerous zines, anthologies, and print and online journals. He lives in the Bronx with his partner of six years. Visit him at www.samjmiller.com.
Poet Yosvaney Reyes is a native of the island of Cuba. Yosvaney immigrated to the United States in 1980. He and his parents were exiled from Cuba due to his father’s ideals and his opposition to the revolution. Subsequently, his father served a fifteen year sentence in a political prison in Cuba before seeking political asylum in the U.S. Yosvaney earned a BFA in acting and musical theatre instruction from Otterbein College. After pursuing a Masters degree in Education, he headed the summer theatre academy program at The University of Miami for four years.
